Today’s feature Superbike race at today’s North West 200 races was cancelled at 7.15pm on safety grounds with the high winds meaning it was too dangerous to continue.
Event organiser Mervyn Whyte read out a short statement citing gusting winds of more than 40mph hitting the Causeway Coast venue as the reason and why the day was brought to an end. He went on to thank everyone for their support during the course of the day which had been difficult to say the least.
With the earlier crash in the first running of the Superstock race causing a lengthy delay and subsequent rain showers, only four races were held between roads closing at 9.30am and 7.00pm and it had been a trying day for all concerned.
