All eyes will be on the Superbike races at this year’s Vauxhall North West 200 and the continuing battle between the Dunlop brothers Michael and William, who shared the big bike glory last year.
Both have switched manufacturers for the new season, Michael opting for Milwaukee R1 Yamaha power while William will be Tyco BMW powered alongside crowd favourite Guy Martin, who has yet to win a race at the North West.
For Michael this will be his fourth manufacturer in as many years having previously gone with PBM Kawasaki, Honda TT Legends and Hawk BMW.
While the all-new R1 Yamaha is an unknown quantity on the roads Michael has proved that he is fast on any machine he throws a leg over.
“I don’t see it as a gamble. I have had a run out on the bike at Donington and won a Thundersport GP1 race on it and Josh has put it on BSB podiums, so even though it is a new project I expect to be at the sharp end come the North West,” said Michael.
William meanwhile is looking forward to racing the BMW saying, “It’s perfect for the way I ride and I was impressed with the way it handled and changed direction. I got my first international Superbike win at the North West last year and want to add to that come May.”
