2017 Gold Cup: Supersport victory for Harrison

Dean Harrison opened his account at a sun-kissed Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough on Sunday in record breaking style when he swept to victory in the second leg of the Supersport 600cc. The Silicone Engineering Kawasaki rider overhauled early race leader Adam McLean on lap four and broke his own lap record by half a second to clinch the David Jefferies Cup.

McLean grabbed the lead off the line on his MSS Performance Kawasaki and led James Cowton (Cowton Racing Kawasaki), Harrison, Ivan Lintin and Joey Thompson at the end of the first lap around the 2.43-mile venue. The order was still the same after two laps with but on the third lap the front four began to edge away with just over a second covering them.
Harrison took the lead on the fourth lap and then McLean ran straight on at Farm Bends subsequently dropping back to fourth. Once at the front, Harrison set some blistering laps, breaking his three-month old lap record on laps five and seven reducing it from 1m46.171s to 1m45.682s and he ran out an eventual winner by 5.3s.
Cowton held onto second as McLean overtook Lintin on the final lap to claim third. Thompson was secure in fifth with Darren Cooper taking sixth and Craig Neve seventh. Tom Weeden, Mark Goodings and Mike Norbury completed the top ten.
