Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin bagged fifth pace in his first Superbike outing at the Vauxhall North West 200 yesterday despite not having any settings or data for the big BSB-spec Panigale.
Irwin finished with a best lap of 4’30.030 - a fraction less than five seconds off the pace - and only did three laps in the session as his team needed to work on even the simplest settings like gearing but he then went out and completed unofficial and untimed laps in the Superstock class and was reported to be only a second slower than Alastair Seeley.
“It was unreal being out there today. I didn’t expect to be this far up the leaderboard this quickly. We don’t have any settings at all for the Ducati because it has never been raced here before,” said the Carrickfergus man.
