Neil Kernohan won Thursday’s Lightweight Ulster Grand Prix by just 0.062s from veteran Davy Morgan with the result declared after three of the scheduled four laps. It was Kernohan's third Ulster GP win after also being victorious in 2016 and 2018.
A grandstand finish was in store and also for the final podium position where Gareth Keys, Paul Williams, Shaun Anderson and Kris Duncan were doing battle but when Keys crashed out on the final lap, the race was stopped with Kernohan declared the winner from Morgan with Welshman Williams getting the verdict for third.
It was equally close in the concurrently run Ultra-Lightweight class as only a tenth of a second split Michal Dokoupil and Christian Elkin at half race distance. However, a third lap of 110.005mph enabled the Czech Republic’s Dokoupil to open up a 1.6s lead and he duly picked up his second UGP win.
The battle for third was just as close and it was Melissa Kennedy who came out on top by 0.3s over Nigel Moore.
