Adam Mclean and Mike Browne shared the honours at today's Cookstown 100 road races both men taking two wins and a runner up.
Browne aboard the Joeys Bar MCC Honda opened his account with an easy win in the Moto 3 class taking the chequered flag 37.58 seconds ahead of Nigel Moore and Mellissa Kennedy.
The supersport race was delayed following a heavy crash involving Michael Sweeney, the Skerries man escaped reasonably unscathed and was fit enough to complete the Open Superbike race but his Yamaha R6 was too heavily damaged to continue.
Following the crash the Open Superbike race was brought forward in the programme. It turned out to be a classic battle between McAdoo Kawasakis Adam McLean and Burrows Engineering/RK Racings Mike Browne. McLean got the holeshot off the start line with Browne and Michael Sweeney in close pursuit with less than second separating the lead trio in the opening few laps.
By lap six Sweeney couldn’t maintain the hot pace of McLean and Browne. The final lap and looked like McLean had the win in the bag but Browne had other ideas and snatched the lead to take his maiden road racing Superbike win 1.2 seconds ahead of McLean and Michael Sweeney in third.
The delayed supersport race was dominated by Adam Mclean determined to make up for the disappointment of the superbike outing Mclean set a blistering pace and a faultless performance taking the flag 9.143 seconds ahead of superbike winner Mike Browne and Paul Jordan on the Prez Yamaha R6 a distant 25.3 seconds behind to take third.
Mcleans second win of the day came in the supertwin race another un-hindered victory 29.218 seconds ahead of Stephen McKnight and Barry Sheehan in third.
The final race of the meeting, the feature Cookstown 100 superbike race looked as if it was to be another Browne, McLean duel, but lap 4 brought the red flags out due to rain making conditions to dangerous. After a half hour delay the organisers the decision was left to the riders and following a two siting laps to asses the conditions. Many of the front runners McLean, Browne and Jordan elected to sit this one out.
A four lap race was started and it was turn out to be a cracker between Darryl Tweed, David Jackson and Forrest Dunn, Jackson led the opening two laps then Tweed took his turn at the front but on the final lap Dunn took to the front a lead he held to the finish line taking the flag half a second ahead of Tweed.
The senior support race was won by Barry Sheehan, Keelim Ryan second and Dean Lacey third.
Barry Davidson took the man of the meeting with three wins in the classic races.
