Mountain Course lap record holder Peter Hickman moved to the top of the Superbike timesheets on the second day of qualifying for the 2023 Isle of Man TT.

The Monster Energy FHO Racing rider lapped the Snaefell course in a new peak of 132.079mph, being careful not to get caught out by the blinding low sun at certain parts of the track.

On his first lap aboard the BMW M 1000 RR, Hickman was the first person to break into the 132mph bracket with his opening effort, though his session did come to a premature end with a technical issue forcing him to pull off at Ballacraine.

Only Dean Harrison would get close with a 131.974mph, which lifted him above Monday pace setter Michael Dunlop, who slipped to third.

There were also improvements for both Milenco by Padgetts Honda riders Davey Todd and Conor Cummins, who rose above John McGuinness to hold down fourth and fifth, with the combined top ten rounded out by Jamie Coward (KTS Honda), James Hillier (OMG Yamaha), David Johnson - making his first Superbike appearance of the week on the C&L Fairburn Jackson Honda - and Rob Hodson.

In the Superstock class, Dunlop was quickest again on the Hawk Honda with a 131.843mph lap, which should put him in good stead for when he returns to the Superbike.

Todd ascended to second place, while Josh Brookes made minor gains on his best lap to hold down third on the second of the Monster Energy FHO BMWs.

In the end the session was neutralised with speed limits due to the setting sun, as well as yellow flags being shown for Mark Goodings’ expired bike.

Due to this, qualifying for the Supertwins and Supersport class was cancelled.
