Andrews returns to the roads with Penz13.com BMW

Simon Andrews will make a return to the roads in 2014 with the factory-backed Penz13.com BMW team less than a year after he suffered life-threatening injuries in a world endurance crash at Le Mans.

Andrews underwent multiple operations and is still in intensive physiotherapy after the crash but the Evesham man is now back on his feet and looking forward to the challenge of being back on the roads. He will also be part of the team's Superstock World Endurance effort, run by Rico Penzkofer. Andrews will test in the coming weeks and his first outing will be at the North West 200.

"We had spoken a little bit through winter and really with the success I'd had with the BMW stocker before, I have a special place for the BMW.I could have ended up with nothing this year but I was still determined to get what I wanted to do, it has really made me knuckle down and try and pin the next three years in achieving what I want to and get the goals out of the way," said Andrews, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

"BMW is what I've had the best results on and that had to be the best bike for me to get back on. I know Rico's bikes are fast in World Endurance and he turns out a good bike, they don't give you any bullshit, it is straightforward. It is a good idea; I have confidence in the bike and machinery, I have ridden them before and I thought that I have to be back on a BMW for the roads.

"With the help and support of BMW I believe the team will give me a good bike to be competitive on. I understand the Roads now and really enjoy it, so I am looking forward to meeting all the team and really seeing what we can do together."
