Guy Martin took a superb Dundrod 150 Superbike race on Thursday evening, overhauling Bruce Anstey on the final lap to claim a narrow 0.244s win. Martin had led from the start until Anstey overhauled him on the penultimate lap but he re-took the lead on the run towards Deers Leap to seal another victory around the 7.4-mile course.
Martin grabbed the lead off the line and by the end of the first lap, he and Anstey had edged away from the rest of the field with third placed Dean Harrison already 1.6s adrift closely followed by William and Michael Dunlop and Lee Johnston.
At the end of lap two, both Martin and Anstey were just shy of 133mph with 0.2s between them as William Dunlop moved up to third, now 2.5s behind Martin. Michael, who had again struggled to get the BMW off the line, was up to fourth ahead of Harrison and Johnston with just three seconds covering the top six. Further back, Ian Hutchinson was holding onto seventh ahead of Peter Hickman, Steve Mercer and Dan Kneen, the latter having started from the second wave.
Positions remained the same on lap three but fourth time around, Anstey was in front courtesy of a lap of 133.297mph with Michael Dunlop up to third with Harrison close behind after also breaking the 133mph barrier. Hickman, whose best lap was 131.196mph making him officially the fastest ever newcomer around Dundrod, was now up to seventh with Mercer also overhauling Hutchinson.
On the final lap, Martin made his move on the climb up towards Deers Leap and with the fastest lap of the race, 133.310mph, he held on to win by just 0.244s. Michael Dunlop held onto third with Harrison, Johnston and William Dunlop rounding out the top six, the latter slipping back on the final lap. Hickman, Mercer, Hutchinson and Kneen completed the top ten.
