DUNLOP FORCED TO PULL OUT OF DAYTONA 200

Ballymoney racer William Dunlop has been forced to pull out of the Daytona 200 in March because he hasn't been able to secure a bike and the funds to race.

Instead, he will travel to Cartagena in southern Spain with a Supersport or 250cc bike and hopes to meet with the KRP British 125GP team.

"Unfortunately, a mixture of not having a machine, and the tightening of the purse strings has forced me to make a last minute change to my plans," said Dunlop.

"I would liked to have been taking in Daytona but the cost and current financial difficulties facing everyone has made the trip unobtainable. I have instead decided to travel to Spain in March were I hope to meet up with Mark Kneen of KRP Racing, and with my own bike, either a 600 or the 250, try and get as much testing as is possible.

"I expect to be away for about two weeks, and I will be travelling on my own, in my van, and using it as my home basically, as I will be sleeping in the van while I am there, so the cost is minimal.   Its not the perfect way to do it, but its the only way I can, as it will cost me about £1,000 on diesel just to get there and back again.

"I have a few other irons in the fire to look at, but hopefully it pays off before the start of the new season."
