The 2009 Enkalon Trophy race scheduled for 10th and 11th April, jointly promoted by Killinchy & District MCC and Motorcycle Road Racing Club Ireland at Bishopscourt Race Track, Downpatrick, will be the 33rd running of the Trophy races which is sponsored by the Enkalon Club.
But this year for the first time the racing will be spread across Good Friday and Easter Saturday with an action packed 25 races, were there will be star names from both roads and short circuits in action over the two days in the event which sees Down District Council continue to support the clubs with financial help.
The line up includes Ryan Farquhar who will be out on both the Superbike races sponsored by Strong Construction and Supersport’s machines, along with Newtownards man Kirk Jamison and Michael Pearson. Farquhar will also be making an appearance in the Supertwins along with Lee Hill and Scott Thompson.
In the smaller classes there are entries from Paul Robinson, William Dunlop and Mark Lunney in both the 125cc which is sponsored by W Bell Plumbing and 250cc classes, were Lunney has been in dominate form so far this season leading both these Championships. Lunney is also entered in the Supersport class.
Johnny McCay and Warren Reeve are among the entries for the Supersport 400 class, whilst the Clubman’s are represented by Glenn Irwin and Kenny Robinson in the Slemish Waters backed 600 / 1010 cc. There are entries from Dylan and Derek Lynch, John Clarke and Stuart Graham and Scobbie Killough and Paddy Marley in the Sidecar races. Not only will Barry Davidson be in action in the 250cc but he will also be appearing with the Avon Tyres Classics.
Entries have also been received from Adrian Archibald, Stephen Thompson, Davy Haire, James Dickson, Gerard Kinghan, Keith Amor and Gary Johnston. Denver Robb has also submitted entries but maybe doubtful due to his Mondello Master’s injuries.
Killinchy & District MCC have dusted down three famous trophies from the Killinchy 150 day at Dundrod. The overall Irish Superbike winner will be in line to receive the magnificent Bob McIntyre Memorial Trophy, whilst the overall Supersport 600 winner is due to receive the Geoff Barry Memorial Trophy whilst the third trophy which is William James Brown Trophy will be awarded to the overall GP125cc winner.
The prize fund for this year’s event is in excess of £14,000, which includes money for all classes including the Classics and a pot of just over £1500 for the Enkalon Trophy race itself.
Racing starts at 2:30pm on Good Friday with practice starting at 10:00am that morning, whilst racing starts at 11:30am on Saturday with morning warm ups from 9:00am. Admission is £15.00 per adult for the two days.
