Fan favourite Guy Martin has confirmed he will return to racing next season which has extinguished any speculation he was going to retire following the Ulster Grand Prix crash that left him with multiple fractures.
The Lincolnshire rider will remain with Tyco BMW in 2016 and partners Ian Hutchinson in the Moneymore team’s roads campaign. Although no schedule has been set, it is thought Martin may take part in the three big internationals plus the Southern 100, events at Scarborough and selected Irish national rounds even though a big mountain bike race he wants to ride in clashes with the Isle of Man.
“I’ve always said the TAS boys are the only team I want to go racing with, so it was an easy decision to make for next year. We made good progress with the BMW S1000RR this year and despite the crash at the Ulster Grand Prix, I was pretty satisfied, but that’s racing. Now it’s just a matter of formulating a plan of attack with Philip and we are good to go,” said Martin.
Not long ago, Martin released a video that intimated he had made a decision on his future that people were not going to like, leading to massive rumour that he would quit and be replaced in the Tyco team.
That speculation was furthered when Hutchinson’s place was announced – it is well known the pair do not get on but time may have healed some of the wounds.
