Irwin to make roads debut at Ulster Grand Prix

Motorpoint British Supersport contender Glenn Irwin will make his road racing debut in the Supertwin class at the 2014 Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old from Carrickfergus, currently riding for Gearlink Kawasaki, has agreed to ride the injured Jamie Hamilton's VRS Racing Kawasaki at Dundrod on 11-16 August.

"I've always been interested in road racing and I've wanted to have a go for a few years. Now the opportunity has arose I would like to thank Gearlink and Kawasaki GB for allowing me to take this opportunity, especially in the Supertwin race, as iv’e slightly slower than the bigger bikes, but really competitive,” said Irwin.

His father Alan was a successful road racer in his day and will be passing his knowledge to his son.

"We've been around the track a few times and hopefully I'll be able to follow in his footsteps. It's hard to say how things will go in your first road race, but I think if you start with the right attitude and do your homework there is no reason a short circuit rider like me can't be successful on the roads,” Irwin added.
