Ballymoney rider William Dunlop reckons it is a relief to get the Cookstown 100 over without a single problem after his opening race weekends were plagued with incidents.
The PJ Flynn/Ballygowan RRSC backed Honda rider took a breath taking win in the Royal Hotel Junior A race at the Cookstown 100 Road Races on Saturday. Starting from Group B, Dunlop beat brother Michael in a dash to the line with just 0.036 seconds splitting the pair, with William setting a new class lap record on lap six at 1m 29.658s, 84.320mph.
A solid fourth place finish in the Supersport 600 race on the CD Racing Yamaha, saw Dunlop round of a perfect day which included to top ten finishes in the Superbike races.
"At last I got a race over without any incidents, and to get a 250cc win on the roads is really exciting, and good for my new sponsors, the Ballygowan Road Racing Supporters Club, who are helping to back me on Paddy Flynn's 250cc Honda.
"I had a really good run out on Chris Dowds 600 and was well pleased to get into the top four, but I think I could have been higher up only for a bit of a botched start, and once that happens you have little or no way back around this tight little circuit.
"It's off to Tandragee this weekend, and lets hope I can keep the results coming. The 250 is really flying, and I know that she will be good enough to win anywhere this season, and that includes the North West 200."
