Keith Amor enjoyed an excellent day of racing at the Kells Road Races on Sunday where the Falkirk ace recorded no less than three second place finishes from his three races. On each occasion, the Wilson Craig Honda rider had to give second best to nemesis Ryan Farquhar but Keith ensured the Irishman had to work for his victories right up until the chequered flag.
With grid positions decided on Championship positions due to inclement weather on Saturday, first up for Keith was the Supersport 600cc race, which was held in patchy conditions. A good start saw Keith slot in to second but when he made a mistake at one of the road ends it handed the initiative to Farquhar and he had to settle for second at the end of the 6 laps. It was a lot closer in the Open race though but after a 'moment' over one of the jumps, Keith decided it was best to sit behind Farquhar and although he tried an overtaking manoeuvre on the last lap, it wasn't to be and second was again the outcome.
That just left the Grand Final and Keith led the field off the line, a position he held until the end of the second lap when Farquhar squeezed by at the final corner. Again, Keith couldn't find a way by and so took his third runner-up spot in as many races, once again only a few tenths of a second adrift.
Talking later, a satisfied Keith said: "Aye, it's been a good day - it would have been nice to have got on the top step of the podium but Ryan was riding really well today and he's so good on the brakes it was just too difficult to make a pass. I gave it my all in the two big bike races and was right on his tail in each so I can't be too unhappy. I had a couple of moments over the jumps when I got crossed up really badly and it frightened me a wee bit to be honest so after that I sat behind Ryan and tried to pressure him into a mistake - sadly, for me, he didn't!"
"Overall, it's been a good day for me and I'm pleased with the results whilst a lot of credit should go to the club as they ran a great meeting in what was definitely difficult conditions. The mixed weather made it a bit difficult for everyone so a big thanks to all the team for working their socks off once more and especially to Wilson and all the sponsors for continuing to back me all the way."
Keith now has a two-week break before his next outing when he will make his debut at the Mid Antrim '150' races. The meeting takes place on Saturday August 1st.
