Road Racing | LAVERTY WINS ENKALON TROPHY AT BISHOPSCOURT

TAS Suzuki’s Michael Laverty won the Enkalon Trophy at his first attempt on Saturday, during the annual Easter Saturday Enkalon Trophy race meeting jointly hosted by the MCRRCI and Killinchy & District MCC. Laverty who was supposed to be testing at Snetterton was given special dispensation from Stuart Higgs, Race Director for the BSB Championship to miss out on the Snetterton testing due to concerns for the forecasted bad weather, certainly was glad to avoid the snowy winter weather at Snetterton for the better weather at Bishopscourt.

Both Laverty and his BSB Supersport team mate Ian Lowry certainly proved that team manager Philip Neill took the right decision to keep the team at home, with the two riders taking five race wins for the TAS team between. Laverty took a hat-trick of wins in the Superbike class, with two wins in the Irish Superbike Championship races, where he is now leads the Championship, before also taking the Enkalon Trophy win for the first time, he has never ridden at this event before as it usually coincidences with a round of the British Championships. Lowry then completed a good day for the team with two wins in the Supersport races.

Cameron Donald completed the TAS domination finishing second in the Trophy race ahead of Portadown’s Marshall Neill with Bruce Anstey fourth. In the two Strong Construction Superbike races it was Neill who took second in both races with Donald third both times, although Anstey was down in 13th in race one and was a non starter in race two.

In the Strong Construction Supersport race one Lowry and Donald completed a TAS one two ahead of Keith Amor. In race two Lowry again took the win, but Donald was relegated to fifth place, whilst Amor was second and Anstey was third. These two wins mean that Lowry heads the Supersport Championship.

In the 125 GP races, it was Randalstown’s Nigel Percy who took the double win ahead of Paul Robinson and Mark Lunney both times around. Percy now heads the title race.

William Dunlop and Ryan Farquhar shared the wins in the 250 class, where in race one Dunlop took the win ahead of Farquhar and David Craig, whilst in race two it was Farquhar who took the win in the second race after Dunlop dramatically came to grief whilst dicing for the lead with Farquhar. Robinson took second place ahead of Ronan Shanahan.

The Isaac Agnew Van Centre Mini Twins races were won by Alan Glasgow with Lee Hill second in race one ahead of Alan Brown, before these two swapped positions in race two. Finally, Scobie Killough / D Lynch and Stephen Galligan / F Woodlock shared the wins in the Sidecar class.
