'Lucky 13' for Birchall brothers as they hit record 120mph in Sidecar TT victory

Ben and Tom Birchall once again exerted their authority on The Mountain to notch up their 13th Sidecar TT victory to their all-time tally, the brothers doing so in extraordinary record-breaking style.

Maintaining an unbroken run of wins on The Mountain that stretches back to 2016, the duo proved once more that they get better with age as they made history by becoming the first competitors to lap the Snaefell course at more than 120mph.

Hitting 120.357mph on their second of three laps with the Wyckham Blackwell LCR Honda, it gave them the edge they needed to dismiss the spirited challenge of Pete Founds and Jevan Walmsley.

Indeed, the Birchalls were never headed throughout, opening up a 3.9secs advantage by the time the field had reached Glen Helen, though Founds and Walmsley wouldn't be outdone over the course of the first lap, nudging the gap down to 3.3secs upon returning to The Grandstand.

However, from here the Birchalls stepped things up a gear, multiplying its advantage to ten seconds by Ballaugh. It was a tempo they'd sustain through to the start-finish line, the timesheets confirming their place in TT history once more.

Unsurprisingly, the upturn in pace did its bit to break the challenge of those chasing, allowing the Birchalls the buffer they needed to keep it clean through lap three and take the flag as Sidecar TT winners for a 13th time.

Founds and Walmsley held their nerve to follow home in second place, themselves hitting a new personal peak of 119.023mph with the FHO LCR Honda along the way.

Completing the podium was John Holden and Maxime Vasseur on the Barnes LCR Yamaha, the pair building in confidence as the race progressed to earn the former his 22nd rostrum on the TT and a first for the latter.

Just 3.5secs further back, Steve and Matthew Ramadan collected a fourth place result, ahead of Gary Bryan and Philip Hyde (Baker Honda) in fifth and Daryl Gibson and Tom Christie (GDM Maintenance CES Suzuki) in sixth
