Macau Grand Prix's organising committee announced their schedule for the November event this week and, as expected, the motorcycle GP was again missing. It’s the second year the famous two-wheel race, first held at the Far East venue in 1967, has failed to take place.
Whilst the situation with the worldwide covid-19 pandemic has eased somewhat, the reason for the cancellation of the race again centres around travel restrictions and quarantine rules. The latter would have required riders and team members to spend up to ten days in isolation upon arrival to Macau and prior to practice commencing.
That situation would, like 2020, have been impossible for many and would have resulted in less than a dozen bikes lining up to tackle the 3.8-mile Guia circuit.
Instead, the 55th running of the two-wheel event is now set to take place in November, 2022.
The headline F3 car race will also be absent in 2021 with the six-race programme on November 19-21 made up of four wheel competitors from mainland China and the Macau and Hong Kong Special Administrative regions.
