MANX GRAND PRIX: SATURDAY REPORT AND RESULTS

SENIOR

Simon Fulton and Philip McGurk got the race underway, followed by fastest in practice, James McCullagh and Alan Jackson. After the first 28 numbers had left the start the red flag came out at the start, after rider 29 engine blew as he left the line and deposited oil on the course from the footbridge to the top of
Bray Hill.

Riders on the course were stopped at Kirk Michael and escorted back to the finish line. The oil slick stretched from the centre of the Grandstand to Ago’s Leap.

Once again, Simon Fulton and Philip McGurk got the re-start two-lap ‘dash’ underway, followed as previously by James McCullagh and Alan Jackson. Glen Helen lap one, McGurk was ahead of Fulton on the roads, but initially it was McCullagh on time by two seconds, until Barclay arrived and took the lead by the merest of margins, 0.34 of a second.

By Ballaugh and McCullagh was ahead on time by 2.99 seconds from Barclay followed by McGurk in third. At Ramsey McCullagh was ahead on the roads as well as time, the gap being 5.19 seconds. The Bungalow gave positions the same with James having added half a second to his advantage as Philip McGurk maintained third place 11 seconds down on Adam Barclay in second.

Crossing the line at the end of the first 37.73 miles it was Adam Barclay who was ahead on time, by 1.87 seconds, although second on the road. James McCullagh was 10 seconds ahead of third placeman Philip McGurk.

James McCullagh was back in the lead on the roads and time by 1.31 seconds from Barclay, with Mickey Fitzpatrick now in third place. By Ballaugh Barclay was ahead on time by 0.14 seconds, which increased to 1.18 seconds at Ramsey, which further increased to 3.23 seconds at the Bungalow.

At Cronk-ny-Mona the lead was down to 8.86 seconds and at the chequered flag the decision went to Adam Barclay on the 750cc Hallett Aviation Racing Suzuki. The gap between him and second placeman James McCullagh was 11.13 seconds, with Mickey Fitzpatrick third 29 seconds behind.
LIGHTWEIGHT/ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT
Brian Mateer and Sam Dunlop were the first pair away in the Lightweight race, whilst Joe Phillips and Rab Davie got the Ultra-Lightweights started.

Maurice Mawdsley at Glen Helen reported poor visibilty at Glen Helen, due to the sun breaking through, as Sam Dunlop led on the roads from Brian Mateer as Dan Sayle took the advantage on time with a lead of 2.80 seconds.

The Ultra-Lightweights had Phillips and Davie still together on the road with the former leading on time by 0.47 of a second.

Ramsey, and Brian Mateer was now second as Sam Dunlop had retired at Sulby Cross Roads. Nigel Moore was now third. Positions were the same at the Bungalow and at the end of the opening lap, leader on the roads, Mateer went straight through on his second lap, whereas leader on time Sayle came in to refuel. Positions at the end of the first lap were Dan Sayle, Nigel Moore and Brian Mateer.

The Ultra-Lightweights had Daniel Kneen leading by 2.6 seconds at the end of the opening lap, with Joe Phillips second and Kirk Farrow third.
