Guy Martin swept all before him at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough on Sunday with the Tyco Suzuki rider taking three wins from three starts, including the feature Ian Watson Spring Cup feature event.
Martin, having his first outing of the season, was never seriously challenged in any of the races and the solitary Ian Watson Superbike race as well as the two Supersport 600cc encounters, all by comfortable margins.
With dry, but cool, conditions around the 2.43-mile woodland venue the Lincolnshire rider opened his account with a start to finish victory in the first 8-lap Supersport 600cc race with Dean Harrison fighting his way through the pack for second ahead of Ivan Lintin and Dan Frear. Michael Pearson, who held on to second in the early stages slipped back to fifth with Jamie Hamilton taking sixth.
The first of the Ian Watson Superbike races saw Martin again grab the holeshot on the run down to Mere Hairpin and although he came under initial pressure from Pearson, he was able to extend his advantage throughout to take an eventual win in excess of six seconds. Pearson was comfortable in second with fellow Northern Irishman Jamie Hamilton taking third ahead of Harrison, who was having his first outing on the RC Express/MSS Kawasaki Superbike.
Martin completed his hat-trick with victory in the second Supersport race, which was the only race where he was headed. Boxed in at the start, he found himself back in fifth at the end of lap one but he was soon up to second and took the lead from Lintin on lap three with Harrison following suit a lap later. Lintin held onto third with Pearson, Hamilton and Ian Lougher completing the top six.
Despite spots of rain falling, the second Ian Watson Superbike race got underway with little to choose between Martin, Pearson, Hamilton and Harrison over the first two laps but it was soon brought to an end and, with time running out, a re-run wasn’t possible.
Hamilton led home Harrison and Frear in the two Supertwin races with Chris Palmer getting the better of Lougher on each occasion in the 125cc races whilst Ian and Carl Bell took both of the six lap Formula Two Sidecar races with Dave Molyneux/Patrick Farrance and Conrad Harrison/Lee Patterson taking a second and third apiece.
