Derek McGee bagged a win in the opening Supersport race at the Armoy Road Races on Friday evening. McGee led for almost all the race with Derek Sheils, Michael Sweeney and poleman Paul Jordan all with a chance of the win.

Sheils, however, slid off unhurt leaving the other three to fight it out. Jordan recovered from his poor start and moved up into second pushing McGee all the way to the flag with Sweeney in a close third and Michael Dunlop who had closed in on the leading pack in fourth.
 
At the flag it was a photo finish as Jordan tried to snatch the win in the final drag, almost a repeat of his close battle with Adam McLean last year, but as they crossed the line the pair collided with Jordan crashing out bringing out the red flags.

Initially it was thought that Jordan had taken the win but it was McGee who was given the verdict and the win by 0.012 seconds. Sweeney took the final rostrum spot and a gallant effort from the injured Dunlop who finished in fourth.
 
In the senior support race local man Tommy Henry took the win ahead of Ryan Fenton and Andy McAllister.
 
Earlier in the day, Sheils continued his recent run of good form in the Superbike class setting the fastest laps in both the Open and Race Of Legends qualifying sessions.
 
He will be hoping to add to his run of seven Irish National wins tomorrow and bringing an end to Dunlop's unbeaten record in the Race Of Legends.
 
McGee was second quickest, Sweeney third and Dunlop who is making his return to racing after being injured following a crash at the southern 100 a few weeks ago.
 
The 30-year-old Ballymoney man has won the past seven ‘Race of Legends’ races at Armoy and will be keen to make an eighth in the feature race tomorrow (Saturday).
