Steve Mercer returned to the track to end the season supporting a new paint job and hopefully new luck, which will go in his favour.
This has not been a settled year for the Kent rider, which has seen him participate in the British Superbike and Senior Superstock championships riding four different bikes including a ZX10R for the MSS Kawasaki team before returning to his favoured Yamaha’s.
He said: “It was great being with the team [MSS], it is a great bike. The atmosphere was so relaxed and great. I am really gutted but you want results and so does the team, unfortunately something was gelling between me and the bike.”
On his return he qualified 14th, before taking ninth in Sunday’s race and he will now be racing at Macau for Ian Jefferies and Brian Morrison. The offer came about through a mutual friend Terry Rymer and one that he is most excited about.
Mercer said: “I want to do the TT and the North West, this will be my introductory and good way to have a go and see what happens, but I have always wanted to do it. Most people do short circuit and I wanted to do something different.”
