Michael Rutter suffered several fractures in his spine and ankle following a crash during the 2025 Isle of Man TT, but a statement from his team has confirmed he has undergone a successful surgery.

The British racing veteran was competing in the Supertwin TT aboard a Bathams AJN Yamaha when he crashed heavily at the 31st Milestone on Friday evening.

Described as 'conscious and stable' at the time, the team has since revealed Rutter was forced to undergo surgery having suffered 'a number of fractures in his spine between L2 and L5 vertebrae', as well as a fracture to his ankle.

Nevertheless, having been transferred to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool, surgeons have 'successfully stabilised all the fractures', before adding that Rutter has been 'able to mobilise on his feet'.

"We are very happy to provide an update on Michael's condition following his accident during the Supertwin TT race on Friday," read a statement on his Facebook page.

"he suffered a number of fractures in his spine between the L2 and L5 vertebrae. After being airlifted to the Walton Unit at Aintree Hospital, surgeons have successfully stabilised all the fractures and Michael has already been able to mobilise on his feet.

"He requires more surgery in his ankle to repair a further fracture there, but for now the worst of his injuries have been treated successfully.

"Michael and the rest of the team would like to say a huge thank you to all the messages of well wishes and of course ALL the medical staff at Aintree and the Walton Unit. We will provide more details on his recovery in due course."

A veritable veteran of racing, Rutter made his debut at the TT way back in 1994 and is a seven-time race winner on the event, though he chose to scale back his commitments to just the Supertwins class aboard a Yamaha.

In addition to his TT success, Rutter is also a multiple race winner in the British Superbike Championship and holds the record for victories at the Macau Grand Prix street race event.
