Well, we finally got a full practice session under our belts on Wednesday and I was pleased to get five laps in. With the little issues we had on Tuesday, the day time was spent talking to the teams and we swapped the quickshifter on the SMT/Carbridge Racing Kawasaki and cured the misfire so I managed to get two laps in.
The first lap felt nice and although the quickshifter was still playing up, the second was a lot quicker. I got the waved yellow flags at Sulby for the unfortunate crash and was down to walking pace and just cruised back across the Mountain. A near 120mph lap was pleasing though.
We'd altered the Penz13.com/Bathams BMW during the day to try and make it steer better, particularly with a full tank of fuel but it was still hard work. It wasn't very easy to downshift either so we're going to turn the anti-blip system off so I can do it manually. Given that, to lap at over 127mph was good. We all want to do 130mph laps but given it was the first proper night, I'm in the position I hoped I'd be. If I can keep in that top six position, I'll be happy.
I only did one lap on the Stocker but although I was second quickest, the traction control kept kicking in. It was my own fault as I could have turned it off but there's that much going on when you're out on the course, it's not always an easy thing to do. The steering wasn't ideal on that bike either so we'll be trying a stiffer front tyre construction tonight on both bikes to hopefully sort the problem out.
I followed Guy and he looked very quick and smooth as did Hutchy. John and Bruce were clearly going well too and I've never seen anything as fast as Bruce's Honda. It was like a rocketship and had superb drive out of the corners so he'll be up there come race day for sure.
Obviously, everyone here's talking about Michael Dunlop's decision to leave Yamaha for BMW. I think most of us could see it coming. I know Michael quite well and he wants to win races but I could understand it from both sides. It's probably just a bit too early for the new Yamaha to come here and do well.
