Newcomer Malachi Mitchell-Thomas had a dream start to his Irish National road racing career at the JFM Haulage Mid-Antrim 150 Road races this weekend. Racing for John Burrows BE Cookstown team he took three wins and two runner-up places.
The 20 year-old had his first win on Friday evening in difficult conditions in the first Supersport race beating Skerries rider Michael Sweeney and Colin Stephenson in third. He followed this up on Saturday with a Superbike win in the open race and victory in the second 600 race.
Derek Sheils also on BE Cookstown machinery won the feature Grand Final race in deteriorating conditions after a close battle with Mitchell Thomas, the pair swapping the lead throughout the race, Michael Sweeney filling the final step on the podium.
In the Supertwin race veteran road racer Ryan Farquhar had his work cut out, the main challenge coming yet again from Mitchell Thomas in a close run duel, the pair crossing the line with only 0.078 secs between them and Michael Sweeney picking up yet another third place finish.
