Bosses at the North West 200 have canned entry fees for the 2013 event in response to the difficult financial climate which is facing racers and racing.
Historically, dues were £100 per race with up to eight races, so it represents a considerable saving at the Vauxhall-backed event this year. The Coleraine and District Club have also introduced new regulations to fall into line with FIM rules (see below).
"The Coleraine and District Motor Club Ltd are very aware of the pressures facing riders at the moment as they struggle to find the sponsorship and support to get to the grid," said Event Director Mervyn Whyte.
"We have tried to take a positive step that will make it easier for everyone to race at this year’s North West."
New rules include:
Front brake lever guards will become mandatory for all classes i.e Supersport, Superstock, Superbike and Supertwin. This change is intended to protect the handlebar brake lever from being accidentally activated in case of a collision with another motorcycle.
Rear brake lights will also be mandatory in all classes as above, intended to be used during a wet race or in low visibility conditions as directed by the Clerk of the Course.
17in wheels will become mandatory for Superbikes in 2014. For 2013 event either 16.5 or 17in can be used.
Competitors have been asked to note that Regulations will be available on the web site - www.vauxhallnorthwest200.co.uk from this week and these can be downloaded. No Regulations will be issued through the post only entry forms.
