HM Plant Honda's Steve Plater has taken his seventh NorthWest 200 win this afternoon after the opening Superbike race was red-flagged on lap three which prevented Bruce Anstey making a move into the Juniper Chicane to snatch the victory on the final lap.
Plater and the Relentless Suzuki man had pulled a three-second gap on third-placed man John McGuinness who was involved in a dice with Cameron Donald and Manxman Conor Cummins with Guy Martin in a distant sixth, some eight seconds in arrears.
"That isn't the way to win a race but there you go. The wind out there is horrendous but I just got my head down and went for it. I could hear someone buzzing around behind me but I didn't know who it was," said Plater.
Scotsman Keith Amor got the holeshot but was passed by Ryan Farquhar riding his Superstock bike. The Kawasaki man was quickly swallowed up by the factory bikes, McGuinness taking the lead from Anstey and Plater.
The Lincolnshire man went past the Kiwi into the York corner on lap two and then stole the lead from his team-mate McGuinness going into the Mill Road roundabout. The pair then put a gap on Anstey in third before the red flags came out.
