Cork rider Alan O’Connor sustained serious injuries in a horrific crash whilst competeting in the Supersport race on Monday during the Bennett’s British Superbike Championship. The twenty-eight year old who rides for the Team MFC Racing was rushed to the Countess of Chester Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment in the High Dependency Unit.
After a worrying night on Monday O’Connor has since pulled through and although still being treated for possible spinal injuries is in good spirits, laughing and joking with his girlfriend and the rest of his team. He received a quite a battering during the crash and has multiple fractures and possible spinal injuries, although he has full feeling, but as purely precaution the hospital are keeping him immobilised until the full extent of his injuries can be ascertained.
Both Alan’s family and the entire Team MFC Racing squad, especially Alan and his Team Owner, Maurice Flynn who very much like to thank Toby Branfoot and his team at the circuit, who were on the scene of the accident immediately and who’s prompt and experienced treatment was extremely valuable. They would also like to thank all the staff in the Countess of Chester Hospital where Alan has been receiving excellent medical treatment.
Anyone who wishes to send a card to Alan, should send it to Alan O’Connor, C/O High Dependency Unit, Countess of Chester Hospital, Countess of Chester Health Park, Chester, Cheshire, CH2 1UL.
