"Oh my god, to be one TT win behind Mike Hailwood..." - Peter Hickman

Peter Hickman wrapped up his campaign at the 2023 Isle of Man TT Races with victory in the Senior race, his fourth win of the week, and, in all truth, it was a race in which he never looked like being beaten.

Having won both Superstock races, the second with a stunning new outright lap record of 136.358mph, the much-anticipated fireworks with Superbike race victor Michael Dunlop failed to materialise as he grabbed the lead on the opening lap on the run to Ballaugh and never looked back.

Aided by the fastest lap of the race, 135.507mph, along with two new record sector times – meaning he now holds the record for all six sectors – the Monster Energy by FHO Racing rider opened up an 11.8s lead over Dean Harrison after the opening two laps and was able to control proceedings from there on in.

His eventual winning margin was almost twenty seconds and after issues throughout the fortnight with his Superbike BMW M1000RR, to the extent that he almost used the Superstock bike for the Senior, it all came good on the day as he moved his haul of TT wins onto a total of 13, one shy of the great Mike Hailwood.

“It’s just amazing to win the Senior again and the team have worked so hard to get the bike right and it wasn’t until the morning warm-up that we decided to use the Superbike,” he said.

“The bike had been turned upside down and inside out but the changes worked and I knew after the warm-up I had a bike I could work with.”

“I knew it would be a fast pace with Michael being on it all week and Dean got out of the right side of the bed so my plan was to get my head down on the first lap. I just had enough in me but I had a bit more if I needed it, if I really needed it.”

“To be one win behind Mike Hailwood, oh my god, what a statement! It’s just nice to reward everyone with the Senior win and with four wins, three seconds and a third, it’s been a hell of a TT for me.”
