PEARSON BACK TO FITNESS FOR MONDELLO

Defending Irish Superbike Champion Michael Pearson is intending to race in next weekend's third round of the Irish Superbike Championships at Mondello Park in Co-Kildare, just three weeks after breaking his fifth metatarsal on his right hand in a high side incident at the Easter Monday Short Circuit Races at Kirkistown in Co-Down.

Pearson, who suffered not only his hand injury, but also severe back, leg and arm bruising in the accident, was told at the time by doctors that he could be out of action for up to ten weeks, but a trip to Ipswich last week to have private treatment on his injured hand has proven a major contributing factor to Michael's speedy recovery, and return to racing.

Michael Pearson:  "I got to hear about this private clinc in Ipswich which specialises in laser treatment to broken bones, and we decided it could do no harm to give it a go.   When I arrived at the clinic I could not move my fingers or clench a fist, but three hours later I was doing just that.   What they did was place my hand between two strong magnets which in turn are used to draw the broken bones together.  Once that is done they laser the bones together, and that's about it really.  It's kinda like having your bones welded together.   The difference in fantastic.  I still have a small cast like support around my hand, but that is just giving me more added strength until the muscles fully build up again.   I feel fine for Mondello next weekend, but will be using is purely to try and obtain some championships points.  That is my main aim, so don't be expecting any heroics".

Willis Marshall: (Manager)  "It's been a very worthwhile trip to Ipswich.  Michael rang me as soon as he got out of the clinic and I knew by the tone of his voice that it had gone well.  He's a fit guy who seems to mend really well.  We have seen the photos of Michaels accident in Irish Racer, and it looked like a very sore prang indeed.  Michael will vouch for me on that one.   As Michael said, Mondello is just to get back into the shape of things and try and obtain some Championship points.  Coming away from Mondello Park with some points will have been highly successful".
