Ballygowan rider Michael Pearson will have to curtail his holiday weekend, as the current Irish Superbike Champion heads to the North East of Yorkshire on Thursday for the Annual Cock O The North Road Races on the seaside resort of Scarborough.
Pearson, who is making his fifth appearance at the event, is excited about the meeting ahead, with Pearson bettering his Scarborough results on each year that he has taken part.
A personal best in 2007, saw Pearson take a fine 7th place finish, while taking a full seven seconds of his personal best lap.
Again, Pearson will be Yamaha mounted for the event, this time with the added bonus of his Yorkshire Sponsors Boost Energy Drinks.
In addition to the Scarborough meeting, Pearson will take in the Dundalk Road Races for the first time. The August meeting will see Pearson racing every weekend in that month with the Ulster Grand Prix, and two Irish Superbike Short Circuits to slot in also.
Michael Pearson: "I am really looking forward to the event. Its a great meeting which is well organised, with Road Racing Irelands Leslie Moore making all the necessary arrangements for the local teams. That takes alot of pressure of us, and lets us concentrate on the task at hand.
"It's a great weekend for the whole team, and I know that I can improve on my results next weekend at Scarborough, with both my R1 CF/Boost Drinks Yamaha Superbikes working really well. I had a little problem with my Pirelli tyres at Bishopscourt last month, and I hope that Scarborough will not deal up that problem again. Still, I am very confident of good results."
Team manager Willis Marshall said: "Michael is very at home at Scarborough, and when he is confident, he rides well. His first outing at this meeting in 2004 on Patsy O'Kanes Suzuki did not go down to well, after Michael fell of breaking both his wrists. He has long since got over that and has rode the circuit better and better each year. Scarborough is quite close to our Sponsors Boost Energy Drinks in Leeds, and we will have representatives up next weekend to watch the races, so we need to be at our best.
"Michael will take in the Dundalk road races in August, his first time at this meeting in the South of Ireland. Its a relatively easy track, and one which I believe Michael can go well at. Its going to be a busy couple of months, but we are conscious of his standings in the Irish Superbike Championships were he lies just 11pts behind the leader Brian McCormick. Track time is important, so we will make the most while we can."
