Scarboro' Gold Cup: Harrison victorious in second Supersport race

Dean Harrison brought Guy Martin’s 100 per cent win record at Scarborough’s International Gold Cup meeting to an end when he won Sunday’s Supersport 600cc race.

Martin was leading the race from Harrison by half a second when he was forced to stop at Mountside Hairpin on the third lap and that allowed the Bradford rider to romp home almost ten seconds clear of Michael Pearson. It also meant Harrison picked up the David Jefferies Cup.

Martin led off the line and led the first lap from Harrison, Bruce Anstey, Pearson and Dan Frear and with drizzle beginning to fall, conditions weren’t ideal. Martin and Harrison broke away from the field with Pearson up to third from Frear, Ian Lougher and William Dunlop but Anstey had dropped back to eighth as they went on to their third lap.

However, there was drama when Martin didn’t come through to start his fourth lap and that gave Harrison a commanding lead over Pearson, Lougher and Dunlop as Anstey lost further ground with the rain getting slightly heavier.

At the front, Harrison had everything under control but the battle for second was wide open with Pearson,, Lougher, Dunlop and James Cowton all in contention. Lougher moved into second with one lap to go but by the chequered flag the order was Harrison, Pearson, Dunlop, Lougher and Cowton. Ivan Lintin, a fading Frear, Dave Hewson, Mark Goodings and Callum Laidlaw completed the top ten.
