Dubliner Derek Sheils put on a dominant show today at his home Skerries 100 road races following his successes at Tandragee and Cookstown he continued his unbeaten streak in the Superbike class, blitzing the opposition with three wins at the north Dublin circuit.

His first win was in the open race, the first event in the days programme, crossing the line 17 seconds ahead of Derek McGee very closely followed by Michael Sweeney.

Sheils also easily beat his rivals in the non championship Open race, winning by 22.2 seconds, ahead of second place Michael Sweeney and Paul Jordan in third and an impressive fourth place for newcomer Davey Todd in his maiden road race who normally competes in the British Superstock Championship.

In a rescheduled programme due to the threat of rain Sheils took his third win in the seven lap Grand Final setting the pace from the off and taking the flag 10 seconds ahead of McGee even after slacking off in the closing laps as the rain again started to fall.

Sheils didn’t however have it all his own way, in a frantic supersport race, McGee, Sheils and Sweeney set the pace at the front, McGee led for most of the race, on the final lap Sheils hit the front but his lead was short lived as McGee was having none of it stealing the lead back in the final run to the flag winning by a mere 0.012 seconds with Sweeney a further 0.6 seconds adrift.

In the final event of the day Sheils took the initial lead in the Supertwin race but a mechanical issue meant he didn’t complete the seven lap race, leaving McGee and Sweeney to fight it out at the front, McGee taking another close win, this time by 0.109 seconds, Paul Jordan finishing third.

McGee also won the 125/Moto 3 race.
