Southern 100: Racing cancelled after crash

All action at the Southern 100 was cancelled tonight following a crash in the 600 race involving David Taylor, Dan Sayle and a marshal which has been described by organisers as 'not life threatening'.

A section of the track between Main Road, Ballabeg, and Cross Four Ways will remain closed after what police described as a serious incident when the race was red-flagged and then abandoned. The Senior and 650cc races were held previous to the incident.

"Because of an incident during the 600cc race, racing was abandoned for the evening, due to the state of the road and the police insisting on making a full investigation. The Club wishes to reassure people that no one involved in the incident has injuries of a life threatening nature," said a club spokesman.

Sayle was reported unhurt but Taylor was taken to hospital with fractures. A flag marshal was also reported to have received leg fractures in the same incident and a spectator was taken to hospital with an eye injury.
