HM Plant Honda's John McGuinness has set the quickest time in tonight's first timed practice, lapping at 128.067mph on his Superbike on his second and final flying lap.
The Morecambe Missile was quickest through all of the sectors on his second lap except for down the long Sulby Straight where team-mate Steve Plater was clocked at 191.200mph compared to McGuinness's 189mph. Plater's fastest time was a nudge over 124mph.
"It's been a good night and I'm well pleased with how the bikes are working. I had a good run round on the Superbike and it's working good, there's not a lot we need to change on it now. I'm still building up my confidence on the big bike and can be a bit sharper on the brakes and the like so there's plenty more to come," said McGuinness.
"I went out on the stocker and had forgotten to alter the sterring damper after I last rode it at Donington but I managed to get two laps in. It was my own fault so I just took it steady through the sections where I knew it would be bad so to be fastest was very pleasing. There's a long way to go yet but we're in the ballpark and I just need to get out on the Supersport bike next to see where we are with that."
Adrian Archibald was second fastest with a 126.743 lap, followed by local man Conor Cummins on 126.167. Hydrex Honda's Guy Martin was fourth quickest on 125.431 and Gary Johnson fifth 125.187.
On lap one, Irish roads ace Ryan Farquhar was fastest from a standing start through all sectors apart from the run from Sulby to the Ramsey Hairpin and set the quickest lap on a 124.440 compared to McGuinness's 124.356 and Archibald's 123.760.
McGuinness was also fastest on a Superstock bike, lapping at 124.684 with Ian Hutchison, who broke down at Ballacraine on lap one, second on a 124.224. He was followed followed by Bruce Anstey (123.529) and Keith Amor (123.460).
Hutchinson set the pace on Supersport bikes, lapping at 122.631 but he was run very close by Farquhar on a 122.433 and Michael Dunlop who went round in 122.158.
