British Supersport regular Jenny Tinmouth has nicked the TT's fastest female crown from Maria Costello after lapping at 116.483mph in this evening's Superstock race, beating the unofficial ladies' lap record by a little under two miles an hour.
Tinmouth beat the record with her second lap on the sorrymate.com Honda Fireblade on lap two with a 114.741 circuit and then pushed the envelope on laps three and four, going through the Sulby speedtrap at 170.8mph on lap four.
"I'm really pleased with that. It was pretty uneventful apart from someone crashing in front of me and it was pretty exciting went McGuinness and the rest of the fast boys went past on the third lap," said Tinmouth, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
"It was a shame I had to pull out of the Supersport race earlier with a broken gear lever bracket. I thought we might have to get the welder out but I found a new one in the back of the van, so we're good to go tomorrow."
Costello set the benchmark of 114.73mph in the Production TT on a GSX-R1000 in 2004 and was full of praise for Tinmouth's effort, saying: "She's a fab lady and an outstanding rider who deserves the title. I will be back to have another crack at it at the Manx Grand Prix but I think Jenny is exactly what the TT needs - more female racers."
