Aussie Cameron Donald scored his best TT finish since 2008 when he took second in Saturday's Superbike race and it was a welcome return to from for the Australian rider whose endured an up and down two years. A move from TAS Suzuki to the Wilson Craig Honda's has already paid dividends for the 33-year old with rostrums at both the North West 200 and TT and although it was a slow start to the Superbike race, a number of 129mph+ laps saw him steadily move up the leaderboard as the race wore on.
Like many riders, the lack of practice time had hit his Superbike preparations and coming into the race he was still unhappy with the set-up but a number of suspension changes, that saw the team working on the bike until 3am on Saturday, worked in his favour. Sixth on lap one, the retirements of Bruce Anstey and Guy Martin promoted him up two places whilst the pit lane penalty for Gary Johnson ultimately handed him second place.
"I struggled a bit in practice so took a bit of a gamble with the set-up and it took me the first couple of laps to get used to the bike but as the race wore on I felt happier and happier and I'm thrilled to come through from sixth to second," said Donald, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
"We were handed a couple of places but that's the nature of the TT and when it's your day like that, it's your day, so we'll happily take it. The last couple of years have been a bit up and down with injury and technical issues so I was keen to get back on a Honda and on Dunlops and the whole package has come together. We had a good start at the North West 200 and that form has continued here so it's a great start to the week."
