TT 2012: 'I brushed a wall at 140mph last night. Twice…' - Andrews

Honda Legends' Simon Andrews has reached his goal of beating the 125mph lap he set last year with a 127.376 on the Fireblade Superbike last night but managed to brush a wall just after the Gooseneck not once but twice as he altered a line to try and get the run up the mountain more smooth.

The Evesham man says he has got all the scratchy, short-circuit parts of the 37.73-mile circuit dialled in now, really clicking with the Superstock bike, and his main focus now is to be smooth through all the faster sections, only rolling the throttle a bit instead of shutting down and opening again which upsets the bike.

"We have changed the setup to get less pitch front to back and I have been trying to smooth things out on the throttle and change my lines. I brushed a wall on the run from the Gooseneck twice last night and it is a good job I was all tucked in," said Andrews, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.

"I've got all the short-circuity bits sorted out now, especially on the Superstock bike, and I was a couple of seconds faster than everyone else on my last lap before the red flags came out and the session was called off. I have really clicked with it, it feels good. The Superbike needs a little more time but I'm up to 127mph after only about 30 laps round here in total.

"In all honesty, I's struggling a bit with fast changes of direction. Quarry Bends is difficult, I'm having to use my upper body a lot instead of my arms, so that's why I'm down a lot on top speed through Sulby and it's pretty tiring.

"I was a bit achey on Tuesday so I've had some physio on the leg and a couple of session in the hyperbaric chamber. In all, I'm having a good week but the weather doesn't look very good from later on today."
