Simon Andrews has completed his first laps on the Motorsave Honda CBR600 he will campaign in both Supersport races at this year's Isle of Man TT and says it requires more mental effort than a full-blown Superbike.
The Evesham rider, who will also race the RAF Reserves Superstock bike next week, hasn't raced a 600 on the Island before and only rode the bike for the first time at a wet North West 200.
"It was good to get some saddle time on the 600 but it requires a lot more mental effort than a Superbike purely because you are flat out on the thing for a lot more time than the big bikes," said Andrews, who was guest of honour at Kirk Michael School yesterday.
"With the Superbike, you get some rolling time off the brakes and back on to the throttle, but the Supersport doesn't let you have any of that time. You don't have to be as physical with it as it is lighter, but you have to be a lot more precise on the throttle to keep it singing.
"I think I will be out on the Superstock bike tonight to get myself back up to speed, but if there is time at the end, I will do a lap on the little bike as it is good fun to ride."
