Isle of Man TT rookie Josh Brookes smashed Steve Plater's five-year-old newcomers' lap record in today's Dainese Superbike race on his way to claiming tenth place in his first ever race on the Island.
The British Superbike title contender went round at 127.726mph on the final lap of six, outstripping the record of 125.808mph set by Steve Plater in 2007 and he will receeive a silver replica for his trouble.
"I'm so pleased but doing two hours on a bike is hard work and I hope that record stays for a ling time. The thing with continually going faster here is you are constantly re-learning stuff. Every time you go one mile an hour faster, all your braking markers change, the placement on the exits changes so you have to work hard to keep the margin of safety in place," said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
"It's a great feeling and I hope I've done all the short circuit riders around the world proud. I'm not going to change anything really for the Senior, just do some more learning on the Superstock bike tomorrow and then get ready to do it all again."
