TT 2013: 'I knew I could do 128mph if I had to' - Dunlop

Michael Dunlop said he knew he had a 128mph in the locker if he needed it and he put it to good use to break the Monster Energy Supersport lap record with a 128.666mph on the way to winning his fourth TT so far this week in the second middleweight encounter.

The Ballymoney man, riding one of Simon Buckmaster's PTR-prepared Hondas, had to push to the limit, losing the front at the Bungalow, to beat HM Plant Honda's Bruce Anstey by 2.3s seconds after four laps, the Kiwi himself also breaking the previous lap record.

I said before coming over I could do 128mph if I had to and that's what I did. It was a great race but at the start the wee bike didn't feel great for whatever reason. I changed the front end but I kept losing the front everywhere, big time into the Bungalow on the last lap, drifting the whole way down," said Dunlop.

"I can't thank the lads enough. Simon will be sunning his balls at Portimao. I told you I could do it Simon. The thing was mint, the engine was fantastic. Four in a week? Me and Gerry (Ryan, sponsor) struggled to get one in five years.

"Boards were lovely, fans were fantastic and I really did push it on the last lap. We put a lot of effort into it."
