Nineteen-time Isle of Man TT winner John McGuinness topped this evening's first dry Superbike practice times this evening with a 129.323mph lap on his fourth circuit, just edging out the HM Plant Honda of Bruce Anstey.
McGuinness, on the Honda TT Legends Fireblade, made a slow start to his opening lap, cruising relative to his usual speed but built on it for laps two and three, setting the fastest lap with a 1'29.025 before Kiwi Anstey went quicker with his last lap of 129.143.
The Morecambe man was not to be denied, however, and stuck in his fastest time on his last lap. Team-mate Michael Rutter was third quickest on a 128.002mph and the top three have a combined age of around 128 years.
Youngster Michael Dunlop retired at Glen Darragh on his first lap aboard the Legends CBR1000RR but put in a lap on his Supersport bike before returning to the big bike and lapping fifth quickest on a 127.656, just behind Guy Martin on the Tyco Suzuki who went round at 127.925.
Despite being quickest through the Sulby speedtrap at 191.7mph, Cameron Donald could only muster a 126.964mph lap for sixth place on the Wilson Craig Honda with Gary Johnson's Kawasaki seventh on a 125.770.
Dan Stewart was next up on 124.306 then Steve Mercer's 124.212 was good enough for ninth while number one starter James Hillier only did one lap and managed tenth place on a 123.300mph.
Newcomer Josh Brookes blasted to a near 122mph lap with his final effort of 121.966mph and must be odds-on to take Steve Plater's newcomer record of 125.8mph.
