TT 2014: Dunlop close to outright lap record pace

Ballymoney's Michael Dunlop has taken his BMW S1000RR close to the outright lap record of 131.671mph set by John McGuinness last year with a 131.501mph lap this evening in the final practice session ahead of tomorrow's Superbike TT.

The Irishman was some five seconds faster than nearest challenger Bruce Anstey who lapped at 130.642 while Gary Johnson set a 130.207mph lap for third. Fan favourite Guy Martin was fourth fastest on a 130.102 while McGuinness himself was fifth with a 129.790.

"We've still got a lot of work to do but the bike feels right. We've made a couple of changes and we're closer than we thought we would be, if we do a lot fo work tomorrow, there is no reason we can't go quicker" said Dunlop, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
