TT 2014: Molyneux takes 17th Sidecar victory

Dave Molyneux has taken his 17th Isle of Man Sidecar TT victory after an engine problem for leader John Holden saw Moly convert an 18s disadvantage halfway through lap two to a 17s lead at Ballaugh Bridge on the final circuit.

Race one winner Conrad Harrison also took advantage of Holden’s misfortune to take second place while Holden limped across the line to occupy the final podium spot with four-times World Sidecar Champion Tim Reeves in fourth place.

Molyneux completely swapped his electronics system back to a Kawasaki kit last night and said he struggled with the outfit on lap one because of a full fuel tank while Harrison also had problems but he nursed his outfit to take the overall Sidecar title even though it was cutting out all over the lap.

With the race run on damp patches at the Waterworks and further up the mountain, and the choice of tyres different down the grid, Holden was 1.986s in the lead over Harrison at Glen Helen which he has upped to 5.305 at Ballaugh and then nearly 14s at the Bungalow with an opening lap of 113.253mph.

Molyneux went into second place at the Grandstand and set about hunting down Holden. An 18.897s lead at Ballaugh was down to 15.137 at the Bungalow and then 11.668 at the end of lap two. As his problems mounted, Holden's lead was only 2.668s at Glen Helen on lap three while Moly was the leader by 17.171s at Ballaugh eventually crossing the line with a 44s advantage.

Karl Bennett and Lee Cain finished in fifth after taking the spot from the retiring Bell boys with Alan Founds and Tom Peters in sixth. Greg Lambert and Kenny Cole were seventh, Wayne Lockey and Mark Sayers eighth, John Saunders and Robert Lunt ninth with Robert Hancock and Basil Bevan rounding out the top ten.
