TT 2014: 'The TT is my life' - McGuinness

Honda's John McGuinness has admitted the TT is the be all and end all of his year and says he is frustrated by his laptimes so far.

“The lap times are alright and I am in the ball park but I am feeling frustrated about it all – I wanted to be at 100% by now but I’m probably only around 85% there," said McGuinness, speaking to bikesportnews.com in the paddock.

“I’ll be better in the race when the adrenalin kicks in – the bike is good and working well so there is no reason why we can’t have a good result, it’s about keeping concentration levels up.”

“The TT is my life – I look forward to it so much, it means so much to me to be here and racing and when I had the accident I thought that I was finished.

“When my mates were picking me off a boulder I thought that’s my TT gone – I had broken my right wrist, needing surgery, my elbows, ribs, back and jaw were bashed and I was passing blood.

“I tried to move a boulder that was there when the dinosaurs were walking about and though I am a big lad, there was no way that I could shift it.”

“I don’t think about the wrist too much when I am on track, there are parts of the course like Bray Hill and Barregarrow when I might slow a little but in the main it flows well.

“My head is in gear, that is the main thing, and I m putting a bit of pressure on myself with a busy programme but I will just take the races as they come.

“I will be there or thereabouts – the bike is a good ‘un and I will finish the races giving everything to be up front and if I’m not, then I can’t retire and will have to come back next year.”
