Diminutive Irishman Lee Johnston upped his game to a near 131mph lap to take third place in today’s RL360 Superstock race to follow Ian Hutchinson and Michael Dunlop across the line just a day after taking fourth in the opening Supersport encounter.
The East Coast BMW rider set a 130.851mph lap on his last circuit to better his previous best of 127mph and said that he had to have the S1000RR setup perfectly to suit his size and get the best out of it.
“I was really pissed off with fourth in yesterday’s Supersport race and not getting shown into the winner’s enclosure was rubbish but I’m made up today and to finish third in a Superstock race is brilliant,” said Johnston, speaking after the race.
“There was no catching Hutchy or Michael but third was there for the taking and although I’d only done 127mph before, I’m sitting here now with a near 131mph lap. It’s unreal. With my size, it’s important to be on a bike that’s perfect and full credit to the lads in the team - they gave me a bike that was exactly that.”
