TT 2016: Dunlop smashes Superstock lap record

Michael Dunlop unofficially smashed his own Superstock lap record during qualifying for TT 2016 this evening, setting a 131.336mph lap to be easily fastest in the class and third fastest overall today as he also nudged the outright lap record with his Superbike lap of 132.365mph.

Dunlop had a steady opening lap on the Hawk BMW S1000RR but then really started to push on and ended up substantially faster than the 130.745mph Ian Hutchinson set yesterday. Michael Rutter was second fastest of the day on a 127.815 with a late lap of 127.765mph from Ivan Lintin on the RC Express Kawasaki nicking third.

Dan Hegarty nipped into fourth with another late lap of 126.971mph which pushed Steve Mercer to fifth on a 126.946. John McGuinness set a 126.328 in between laps on the Superbike and was sixth quickest while Gary Johnson took his Penz13.com BMW to seventh place.
