Ballymoney rider William Dunlop left Dundrod on Saturday with the feeling of "what might have been" with the PJ Flynn/CD Racing backed rider confident that he could have taken another two podiums on Saturday, had the meeting not been wrecked by the weather.
Dunlop, who had shown his hand in Thursday's 125 Dundrod 150 Race, and then later in the day while qualifying for Saturday's Ulster Grand Prix, had mixed feelings as he waded his way home through the deluge at Dundrod.
"I am very disappointed that the meeting has been cancelled, but there was no way we were going to get racing on Saturday," said Dunlop.
" I think the meeting should have been called off earlier, but there again, the organisers were probably trying their best to sort something out. I felt very comfortable all week, and although I was not riding as hard as I could have, I still believe that I could have won the 250cc race at least, and if it had been dry maybe even one of the 600 races.
"Thursdays 125 race was good fun, and Ian Lougher just pipped me on the line by 0.052 seconds, although I did manage to get the fastest lap of the race at 109.862mph.
"Paddy Flynn's 250 Honda was going well, but there was still more left in her had I needed it in Thursday qualifying. I set the fastest qualifying time at 119.2mph just in front of Ian Lougher and Michael my brother, and I was quietly confident that I could have won that race.
Chris Dowds 600 Yamaha was going really well and I managed to set the third fastest time on her in qualifying at 120.752mph just behind Lougher and Bruce Anstey. I don't know if I could have won a 600 race but I would have given it my best shot, but I think a podium was defiantly on the cards. I struggled with the CD Yamaha superbike in qualifying and only managed 22nd place, but it was not the best conditions when we went out on Thursday.
"I am very pleased with Chris's involvement this year and would dearly love another crack with the team in 2009. I will be riding his 600 and Superbike and Killalane before going over to the Gold Cup in Scarborough. If time allows, I will take in the last couple of rounds in the 125 BSB Championships with the KRP Honda Team, but then again, it's all down to what money we have left in the kitty."
