2022 Provisional WorldSBK calendar released

2022’s WorldSBK calendar has finally been revealed with April heralding the initial race action of next season.

Spain’s Motorland Aragon will kick off the year, two months later than the usual iteration, before the production championship heads to the Assen TT Cathedral of Speed.
Portugal’s Estoril will host May’s solo event, with Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli doing likewise one month later before Superbikes returns to the UK at Donington Park in mid July.

Most, in the Czech Republic, and the traditional visit to France’s Magny-Cours book-end the summer break before a return to the Iberian peninsula. Barcelona-Catalunya and Portimao complete the European season with just two flyaways currently scheduled - Argentina’s San Juan and Indonesia’s Mandalika - to round out the year.

Australia’s Philip Island, missing from the action since the start of the pandemic, remains TBA although is expected to conclude the 2022 season, with potential for one further round still to be added.

All rounds will cover WorldSBK, SSP and SSP300 with the exceptions of Donington Park, and the long-haul venues.

“Firstly, it’s great to unveil the 2022 WorldSBK calendar so soon after the thrilling 2021 season has finished,” Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director explained.

“WorldSBK will bring a refreshed brand identity for 2022 and we look forward to the season after two challenging seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A 13th round will take place and we have some options for where this event could be, whilst it will be great to welcome Australia and the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit back to the calendar, this time closing the season. The date is to be confirmed due to logistical challenges that require further analysis.

“I am pleased to welcome back two of 2021’s new circuits: the Autodrom Most and the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. We look forward to another fantastic season of WorldSBK action.”
