Alex Lowes 'had the chance to fight for the podium and maybe the victory' at Magny-Cours

Gold and Goose

After a weekend full of highs and lows Alex Lowes reflects on his races at Magny-Cours.

Alex Lowes had a mixed weekend at Magny-Cours as his fortunes varied across all three races. In the opening race, Lowes crashed out of the lead in the treacherous conditions. He then finished second to Nicolo Bulega in the Superpole Race before ending his weekend in fourth.

After the weekend there were mixed feelings for Lowes on his weekend. This was because it was a chance for him to capitalise on Alvaro Bautista and Toprak Razgatlioglu being absent.

"It was a disappointing first lap I made a good start and I felt like I had the pace to challenge," Lowes stated after Race Two.

"Obviously, with Toprak (Razgatlioglu) and Alvaro (Bautista) being injured, firstly I wish them all the best and to be back as soon as possible. But with them injured, it opened the race up a little bit and I felt strong.

"On the first lap, I had an issue with the bike, we have to analyse it and see what it was. But I thought it was going to end my race so I pulled directly off track. I reset some buttons and it kept going.

"I was convincing myself it wasn't right for a few laps, but then I got my head down and I felt quite strong. It was disappointing, it is so close now in Superbikes you can't be starting last on the first lap and expect to do too much. But it was a fun race."

"If I take all the expectation out of it the race was great because I enjoyed it!" - Alex Lowes

Lowes has been able to put a positive spin on Race Two. The speed he showed has given him hope for the final four rounds of the 2024 season.

"If I take all the expectation out of it the race was great because I enjoyed it," Lowes stated. "I passed a lot of guys. In the last few laps, I used a lot of tyre trying to turn the bike more to pass some guys.

"It shows how well the Kawasaki is working at the minute to be able to pass so many guys. I feel like I am able to ride the bike on the limit and put it where I want.

"The general disappointment is I had the chance to win yesterday and probably had the speed to win today. Not taking anything away from Nicolo (Bulega), but I certainly had the chance to fight for the podium and maybe the victory.

"However, we didn't do that, so we need to analyse as a team why we didn't do that. But also we need to be positive that we were fast enough to have had the opportunity to do that."
